The Scanian history in a nutshell

The Viking Era

Pic: Viking age

800 - 1047

Scania was at times an independent kingdom, at other times an independent earldom within the Danish Kingdom. Several Scanians were on the Throne of Denmark from 1047, beginning with Svend Estridsön. Scania experienced a considerable emigration to Normandy, the other parts of Denmark and Vineland west of the river Oder. The Normandy flag and Coat of Arms are historically linked to Scania.
